Waterfalls

Where?
-It is situated on the Enz in Neuerburg. That's 25 km from Irrel. Follow the road when you drive from Irrel to the Wasserfälle, you pass by Prümzurlay, Holsthum, Peffingen, Enzen, Mettendorf, Sinspelt to Neuerburg. There you follow the main road through the village, when it goes up and there 's curve to the right, you might notice a big rock on the left. There's the fall. There is also a mill and a sign left to the citypark. It's in the center of the village between the houses.

Hight?
-The fall is 5 meter high at low level. At flood level, when I saw it, it is much higher because the water goes over the rocks on the side.

How?
I was told, by some crazy German (sorry Christoph), it can be paddled easy, no problemo. But again due to the flood, when we were there, it didn't looked that obvious. Before the bridge at the entrance of the jump there was a heavy stopper, 3 meter before you go down, that could cause some problems keeping the right line. I don't think it 'll be there when there's a normal waterlevel.
Jumping center-left seemed to us the way to go. Avoid right, might be a bit rocky, even undercut? Just check it out yourself, you might be more experienced?
I don't know how deep the reception is, you tell me ... :-) I seems that it is deep enough.

- (added jan 2001) As you can see on the pic above, we 've jumped the fall december 2000 at low water, and indeed no problemo, 2 seconds of fun. The first time I boofed FLAT and 'kind of felt the collapse in my back, so not the best thing to do. Steven went a bit steeper, no boof, didn't feel a thing. The second time I didn't boof, but I also landed pretty flat, but felt good. Due to the low water we slid over the rock at the edge and 'kind of naturally boofed, so we needed to lean a bit to the front. Still we never went deep in the water. (added jan 2001)

More paddling around?
The Enz is grade (I)-II river it can be paddled from Neuerburg when there 's 95cm on the Prüm in Echtershausen. I presume you also need that much to paddle the fall but I don't know it for sure. Go and see.

The Mill?
Next to this fall, closer to the mill, there is another fall, more artificial, also 5 meter. I don't know if it can be paddled. There was enough water when we saw it. But the bridge was to low to get under and the reception didn't seem that clean, all mousse.

Endertfall

(Still in Dutch and a bit English, sorry)

Dit is een waterval op een klein beekje, diep in het bos. Ze is 6 meter hoog, makkelijk te springen maar niet zonder risico. Je moet namelijk rechts springen, dan val je in het kleine bassintje. Normaal gezien duwt de stroming je rechts. Als je er toch in slaagt om links te springen, beland je tussen de rotsen klem te zitten in een kloof je van 50 cm breed. Very bad place to be.

Doordat de Endert een klein beekje is, moet het veel geregend hebben. Als referentie, de Ahr in Müsch moet meer dan 100cm hebben.

Na de waterval is er 9 km goede klasse III, maar smal en met veel bomen, soms moeilijk te stoppen. We hebben ze bevaren tijdens het Kerstweekend '99 (niet gesprongen), leuk WW maar meer dan 20 bomen over de beek. 't Was wel na een overstroming.

How to get there?

Take the highway A48/E44 between Koblenz and Trier, take exit 7 Ulmen, follow direction Cochem, after a couple km's you can go left to Laubach, don't take this road, but take the next one left to Maria Martontal and Kaisersesch. This road goes down very steep, down in the valley is the Endertbach. Park the car at the bridge and walk from here. Follow the river upstream, there is a path on the rightbank, you 'll see the fall after 1km. Just upstream, there 's a little wooden bridge.

Elzbachfall

(Still in Dutch and a bit English, sorry)

Dit is een grote waterval van 8 meter hoog en zeker zo breed, Pyrmonter Mühle bij Burg Pyrmont, Queen of falls, the fall to jump, spectakel en kicken. 't Leuke is ook dat de waterval, net zoals de Wasserfälle op de Prüm, in de benedenloop gesitueerd is. De kans dat er water staat verhoogd hierdoor. Om de Elzbach te bevaren moet er ongeveer 75cm op de Ahr in Müsch staan. Hoeveel water je nodig hebt om de waterval te springen weet ik niet. Je moet in ieder geval veel lef hebben.

De waterval is gesitueerd onder een brug met 2 bogen en een peiler in het midden. Dus eigenlijk zijn het 2 watervallen naast elkaar. Bij laag water kun je de waterval aan de linker oever springen. Er zijn dan 2 trappen met een zwembadje tussen. Opgelet, als er bij dit eerst sprongetje al iets misgaat moet je heel snel kunnen eskimoteren.

Bij hoogwater komt er een rappel in het zwembadje, vanwege deze te grote stopper spring je dan beter langs rechteroever. Dit is 't schijnt niet zo goed voor de boot, but who cares, it's 8 meter straight down !!!

How to get there?
Highway between Trier and Koblenz, go off at Kaifenheim, go direction Roes, follow the signs Burg Pyrmont.

How to get there, coming from the playspot in Bad Neuenahr going to the spot in Irrel ?
Als je van Bad Neuenahr komt op weg naar Irrel, dan verlaat je normaal in Mendig, afrit34, de A61/E31 om te veranderen van autoweg. Je rijdt dan een stukje langs secundaire wegen richting Mayen om daar terug de A48/E44 te nemen. doe dit maar neem de autoweg niet en rij je onder de autoweg door naar het dorpje Kollig. Daar rij je naar het dorpje Roes. In Roes rij je naar Pillig. Wanneer deze weg de Elzbach kruist, kom je aan de waterval bij Burg Pyrmont. Het kasteel staat al in de vorige dorpjes aangeduid.
Om daarna door te rijden naar Irrel, rij je via Roes naar Kaifenheim en daar kun je terug op de A48.
