Wavespotting

Travelling along the French Picardian coast I took some time to go and check  out some places. If in St-Valery a river ends in the sea and forms a tidal wave, why shouldn't there be other waves like this?

Le Tréport center , beautiful epic view, the church and the white rocks.

Two places where inland water goes into the sea. Above the first big entry to the harbour, two big doors, no wave potential.

The second place is where the river goes into the sea. Here there is a traditional sluice, upper gate open, boat in, water in or out, lower gate open, boat out. No wave potential.

And when all the gates are closed, the water of the river is spilled into this little barage forming a ugly hole ... no playboating potential (pics left, above, under).

The pics are made a couple of hours after high tide and at low water level on the river. Maybe the situation changes at low tide or with high water on the river.

But the overall look of this place is not kayak friendly, concrete walls, big boats, steel reinforcements in the water everywhere.

So I continued the wavespotting trip up North ...
