Nieuw op de site:

Opnieuw een nieuwe versie van de menubar, de map blijft Nederlands, de buttons werden Engels, onderaan je scherm komen de knopkes in 't Frans en als je er blijft over hangen, verschijnt een Duitse versie, alhoewel Duitsachtig. Gewoon effe m'n webdesign kennis aan 't bijschaven.

Site updates:

There 's another update of the menubar. The buttons became English, the map stays Dutch, but now the French translation appears in the status window, and I finally amused myself by making a German translation that pops up if you hold the mouse above the buton. I 'm just exploring the webdesign possibilities :-)

Check out Kayakmag.com for daily reports from the Zambezi Big Water Invitational 2000. Crazy video's, pic's and reports of some toppaddlers trying to concur the Zambezi. Some names are Corran Addison, Deb Pinniger, Julie Dion, ...

They compete in four events, downriver slalom, freestyle, head to head race, mastering the Oblivious wave the longest.

Zoals je kunt zien ben ik uiteindelijk ingeslaagd wat tijd vrij te maken om de menublak te vertalen in het Engels. De Nederlandstalige links blijven bestaan op de 'map'. Zo wordt het menu dus 2-talig, of zelfs 3-talig, want als je je muis over de menubalk stil houdt, dan verschijnt er ook zoiets als een Franse versie.

Voortaan geef ik weer info omtrend de waterniveau's in en rond België. Je vindt er de hoogte van sommige peilschalen, maar soms ook de trends, de invloed van 't weer, welke playspots the place to be  zullen zijn het volgende weekend.

Wanneer wij gaan varen, volgen wij de peilschalen en 't weer op de voet. Dus als we ze toch in de gaten houden en rondbellen, kunnen we ze gewoon ook online zetten. Vandaar dat je er niet altijd alles vindt, maar dikwijls toch wat extra's.

From now on, I 'll restart giving additional info on the gauges in and 'round Belgium. You can find the waterforecast, but sometimes also the weatherforecast, the playspots that will be on, ...

When we have the intention to paddle the coming weekend, we check the waterlevels  frequently and phone around. As we have the info, it's no big deal putting it online. So you won't find everything all the time, but often you 'll find something extra.

De nieuwe vaarreglementen die enkele rivieren van lijst 1 naar lijst 2 verplaats ging op 1 oktober 2000 ingaan. Deze datum is nu verlegd naar 1 januari 2001.

In de nieuwe reglementen wordt de Vesder voor altijd verboden terrein, voordien was deze heel het jaar bevaarbaar (In en uitstaplaatsen), nu dus nog tot 1 januari 2001.

The new regulations concerning paddling on Belgian rivers didn't start on the 1st October but are posponed 'till the 1st January 2001.

So the Vesdre near Eupen can be paddled 'till then. (pull down menu 'La Vesdre' embark-disembark)

Europees Interuniversitair Kayakpolo Tornooi op de GRASLEI in GENT.

Start om 10u00, finale om 18u00, ploegen uit België, Nederland, Duitsland, Ierland, Portugal en Groot-Brittannië.

Saturday October 7th, the kayak club from the university in Ghent organizes a 

European Interuniversity Kayakpolo Tournament

on the 'Graslei' in the medieval center of Ghent (Belgium). Start 10.00h, final 18.00h, teams from Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Portugal and Great-Brittan.

Zondagmiddag varen we de Warche van Büllingen naar Robertville, vooral aan de playspot onder de spoorwegbrug. 's Morgens stoppen we waarschijnlijk eerst even in Sauheid (Mava).

Er wordt zaterdag en zondag water gelost op de Warche voor de afdaalwedstrijd. Zaterdag mag iedereen vrij varen, zondag alleen na de competitie.

Next Sunday afternoon we 'll be paddling on the Warche (B) between Büllingen and Robertville but specially in the playspot under the railway bridge. In the morning we 'll stop by Sauheid, Mava-playspot.

This weekend there will be water on the Warche 'cause of a speed-descent competition, saturday free paddling, sunday free paddling after the race.

'k Ben juist terug van de Topo Vénéon Trophée in de Franse Alpen. 

't Was een zeer geslaagd weekend, ook nogal een bikke zwaar. Dat slaat op zwaar water maar vooral op een zwaar hoofd. In ieder geval te gek.

Volgend weekend gaan we naar de Topo Vénéon Trophée in de Franse Alpen. 

Lekker wildwater, klasse 4-5 (5+), head to head, dà 's 1 tegen 1, om ter 't eerst afdalen met een 7-tal verplichte stopkes. Maar de avond voor de race is er natuurlijk de fuif !!!! En de volgende morgen ...

Next weekend we 'll paddle the Topo Vénéon Trophée in the French Alps.

A bit of extreme boating, a head tot head race and a big party!!! Those French surely know how to party ... and paddle a grade 5 head to head race the next morning.

De nieuwe Wavesport boten voor 2001 zijn nu ook online te bezichtigen bij Wavesport.com

Als we ze even rap en luchtig overlopen volgens wat er te zien is op de fotootjes, is er de 'Score', 212 lit., 251cm, een beetje de grote broer van de 'Forplay'. Dan is er de 'Evo', 140 lit, 213cm , de wavesport versie van de Perception 'Jib'. Dan zijn er de topmodellen de 'EZ', alias 'easy', 178 lit, 206cm, een beetje een ingedeukte Riot 'Disco' en de grotere versie, de 'Big EZ', 193lit, 213cm.
  

At first sight they 've got the Score, that's a big Forplay, then there is the Evo, 'kind of a squirt boaty like the Perception Jib and finally the topmodels, the EZ, that's 'easy', and the Big EZ, both look like dented Riot Disco's.

The is a first impression, so don't spam me if they are and paddle totally different.

Vergeet ook dit niet, zaterdag 2 september organiseert kajakclub Rews uit Gent, een kajak-fakkeltocht door het centrum van Gent. Als je zin hebt om aan deze heel gezellige en sfeervolle tocht deel te nemen, kom dan af.

Verzamelen aan het clubship de 'Amiticia' aan de Snepkaai om 18u30.
Start om 19u30 en aankomst aan 't Gravesteen om 20u30., dan terrasjes tijd.
Om 22u00 worden de fakkels aangestoken en begint de fakkeltocht terug. (einde rond 24u00)

Let wel op, je moet wel een beetje kunnen varen want 't is in 't donker, hé. Je moet ook je eigen materiaal meebrengen. 

Misschien tot zaterdag...

Tomorrow, 2 September, kayakclub Rews from Gent organizes a paddling tour  through the medieval center of Ghent by night with torches.

Meeting point: 18u30, Club ship "Amiticia", Snepkaai, Gent.
Start: 19u30, paddling to Gent, 20u30 arrival at the "Gravesteen", the famous medieval castle.
Return: 22u00, lightening of the torches, paddling through the Medieval center of the city. (end 24u00)

Be ware, you should have a bit of paddling experience and your own gear, it's in the dark.

Gisteren naar de Somme geweest. Maar helaas was er geen golf. Serieus pech dus.

Er stond niet zoveel water en toch  stonden er 2 sluizen open. Volgens de waterstand en de getijden was het nochtans niet nodig er 2 te openen. Dus geen grote golf beneden, slechts wat gekabbel waar je amper kon op surfen.
Boven was het al even erg, daar was de schuif slechts half geopend en dus ook geen golf. Er was wel een zeer krachtige stroming en een goed  keerwater. Dus hebben we ons wel geamuseerd met wat te cartwheelen over de keerwaterlijn en ook wat soleils en  chandellekes te maken. Dus toch leuk maar de 250km rit niet waard.

Nieuws van Dagger, hun boten voor het jaar 2001 zijn nu te bezichtigen online op de Dagger site.

Maar er is ook officieus nieuws. In de reeks van de Centrifuge en Ultrafuge wordt er ook gewerkt aan een Megafuge. Op het Duitse Outdoorcenter toont foto's van testvaarten.
    

There is also some unofficial news. The German Outdoorcenter shows pics of a  prototype called the Megafuge, ... after the Centrifuge and Ultrafuge.

Vorig weekend was er het te gek Rews club weekend. De Gentse club trok naar Beauraingville om gewoon wat samen te varen op de Canche, op Zee, één enkeling ook op de Somme, maar ook om samen een glas te heffen en te vertellen over de voorbije vakantie, een leuke afsluiter.

Het hoogtepunt van het weekend was de Rews Canche Rodeo wedstrijd. Een kleine 20 'freaks' gingen by night te water om de gekste figuren te maken. Het alternatieve reglement en de originele verlichting zorgde voor een te gek en vooral sfeervol gebeuren. Na elke move moesten de kandidaten een tarzankreet slaan om de jury te imponeren, aaaiiaiaiaiaiaiaiaiaiaiiaiaiiiyyeeehhaaa.

Er is een verslagje van 't weekend en de wedstrijd.

En een verslagje van de middag op de Somme.   

Anyway, top of the pop was the 'International' Rews Canche Rodeo competition by night. But because there were no French locals entering the comp', the only international 'bout it were the Belgian, French and Dutch supporters. Crazy enders, front and back surfs, lots of squirts, 'Cisse cartwheeling and lots of swimmers spiced up the night. The security had lots of work recovering the gear in the dark, but there never were problems, just fun, keep smiling and get back in the boat. The comp' was on for about an hour during which everybody could make his moves. The very alternative rules said that you had to scream like 'Tarzan' the get the jury's attention whenever you made a move worthwhile. This made a lot of paddlers spend there last breathe in shouting and then going under mouth open. This isn't the best situation to set up a roll.
Of course a party followed afterwards.

There's a tripreport of the competition and one of the afternoon on the Somme, but both are in Dutch, sorry.)

Bekijk nu de allernieuwste kayaks, juist voorgesteld in Salt Lake City. Deze beurs is alleen voor professionals, handelaars en toont nu de nieuwe boten voor 2001.

Ooit gehoord van de Prijon Delirious, Eskimo Nano en Salto, Dagger Super Ego volgens mij kan je met zo'n naam alleen maar floppen, maar ja 'that's America'. Surf dus naar de volgende sites!!!!!

Dus hebben we daarvan vorige vrijdag nog snel even gebruik gemaakt om de Wasserfälle op de Prüm te varen. Zoals gewoonlijk was dat best leuk, lekker veel rocksplatten. Natuurlijk waren de toeristen ook van de partij, veel meer dan in de winter, show geven dus. Zon, warm weer en toch nog net genoeg water, wat hebt ge nog meer nodig.

Volgende weekend zit Rews Kajakclub Gent aan de Canche in Beaurainville en komt de Somme ook aan de beurt. (2 playak.com spots)
     

So last Friday we paddled the Prüm, Wasserfälle in Germany, that's near Luxemburg. And we had lots of fun as usual. We also amused lots of tourists, even an American paddler who was visiting the spot, but didn't bring his boat. (Hey Josh cu next time with gear.) Sunshine, warm weather and still enough water, what else could we wish. 

Next weekend is clubweekend and we 'll be in France at the Canche in Beauraingville and we'll also visit the Somme. (2 playak.com spots) 

De Spaanse Pyreneeën waren te gek, elke dag 30°C bakken in de zon. In Belgenland was 't blijkbaar zo goed niet, of toch juist wel. Ik heb zojuist de waterstanden bekeken en meerdere Ardeense rivieren halen hun winterniveau of toch bijna. We zullen dus eens moeten afzakken naar daar.

(Sorry maar blijkbaar is deze site en video verdwenen (30 juli)) Na eventjes rap rond te surfen, vond ik via de Riot-site deze site, dividid.com , met leuke disco-videoclip, te gekkkk. Let op 't blijft een reclame filmpke, met veel andere boten lijken me deze figuren ook haalbaar. 
Quick Time video, 5.5mb, dus voor de snelle surfers onder jullie, als je op pauze duwt, kun je met de pijltjes op je toetsenbord vertraagd voorwaarts en terug spoelen. Zodat je alle blunts, splitwheels en zelfs de looping kunt bestuderen.
     

De Spanish Pyrenees were great, 30°C, sunshine. Northern Europe and Belgium weren't that lucky, or were they? 14 continious days of rain brought most rivers up to their winterlevels, so lots of playboating spots are on in Belgium, Luxembourg, West-Germany.

(Sorry the site is gone, where to ??(30 July)) I've just surfed around a bit and found this site, dividid.com, with a great disco-videoclip, trough the Riot-site. Beware, it's a commercial clip.
